A day trip from Auckland to Hobbiton and the Waitomo Glowworm Caves costs from about $210 to $295 a person on the booking platform, with both entry tickets and the guided tours included. The one-way days between Auckland and Rotorua start from about $252, and a two-day tour from about $955. The Hobbiton ticket on its own is NZ$130 for an adult.
What the tour price buys
Every day trip here includes the Hobbiton Movie Set tour and the Waitomo Glowworm Caves tour, with transport from your hotel. Most include lunch and the drink at The Green Dragon Inn. The listed extras are small: tips, drinks at lunch, souvenirs. Auckland and Beyond’s trip is the one that leaves lunch out.

The tickets on their own
The official Hobbiton Signature Tour is NZ$130 for adults, valid for departures until 31 March 2028, NZ$65 for ages 11 to 17, NZ$332 for a family of two adults and two youths, and free for children 10 and under with a booked ticket. The Waitomo Glowworm Caves sell their own ticket for the 45-minute tour; its price is on the caves’ booking page, and we did not find an official figure to quote here.
Day trip or drive yourself
Driving yourself means two tickets, a hire car, fuel and about five and a half hours at the wheel in a day, or a night in the Waikato to split it. For a couple with a car already, that is usually cheaper. For a solo traveller or anyone without a car, the day trip folds the transport, the timing of two booked slots and lunch into one price, which is why the cheapest tours here have thousands of reviews.
Where the price differences come from
Group size, vehicle and lunch. The cheapest tours carry up to 15 or 16 people in a minibus; FlexiToursNZ puts fewer seats in its vehicles and charges more; Bush and Beach adds the buffet and a voucher.
